There are as many answers to that question as there are singers in the countless pubs where the genre is still kept alive throughout Ireland today. \n\nEven after 100 years of independence from England\, the colonial era still haunts the streets of Ireland\, not least in folk music\, which has been revived among a generation of young people who take pride in their Irish language and nationality. \n‘Celtic Utopia’ unravels modern Irish history and introduces us to a refreshingly broad cast of characters\, including pierced punks\, rappers\, and ravers\, who come together to revive and reinterpret the classic folk music tradition with humor and renewed indignation. Prominent groups such as The Mary Wallopers and Lankum deliver sharp punchlines and even sharper songs\, of which there are fortunately plenty in the film.

Men inspirationskilderne giver perfekt mening\, når man lytter til CMAT’s panoramiske solskinspop med en laber understrøm af country-feeling. \nIrske Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson – hvis kunstnernavn er en sammentrækning af forbogstaverne i hendes rigtige navn – har de seneste år markeret sig som et af de mest spændende nye popnavne. Hun er bl.a. blevet sammenlignet med amerikanske Chappell Roan og engelske Lola Young\, men CMAT er sit eget unikke popvæsen\, der elegant bygger bro mellem tradition og nutid. \n2022-debuten If My Wife New I’d Be Dead er en formidabel blanding af øremasserende melodier og tekster\, der med humoristisk overskud kredser om bl.a. kærlighed\, knuste hjerter og mentalt helbred. Opfølgeren Crazymad\, for Me (2023) bygger ubesværet videre på forgængerens kvaliteter og blev i 2024 nomineret til den prestigiøse britiske albumpris Mercury Prize. Og den 29. august udkommer hendes tredje studiealbum Euro-Country\, hvorfra de fremragende singleforløbere har varmet op til endnu en suveræn albumoplevelse. \nHerhjemme har mange musikelskere fået ørerne op for det irske kraftværk via hendes koncerter på Roskilde Festival 2024 og SYD FOR SOLEN 2025. Sidstnævnte show honorerede GAFFA med 5 funklende stjerner og følgende opfordring: ”Hvis du mangler idéer til din næste ønskeliste\, så skal CMAT-billetter stå helt i toppen”. \nNu kan man opdatere ønskesedlen\, for den 21. marts 2026 vender CMAT tilbage til Danmark\, hvor hun præsenterer sangene fra sit nye album i Store VEGA. \n \nUp-and-coming CMAT mixes pop and country in VEGA\nFew musicians cite both Dolly Parton and Katy Perry as musical role models.
