There are as many answers to that question as there are singers in the countless pubs where the genre is still kept alive throughout Ireland today. \n\nEven after 100 years of independence from England\, the colonial era still haunts the streets of Ireland\, not least in folk music\, which has been revived among a generation of young people who take pride in their Irish language and nationality. \n‘Celtic Utopia’ unravels modern Irish history and introduces us to a refreshingly broad cast of characters\, including pierced punks\, rappers\, and ravers\, who come together to revive and reinterpret the classic folk music tradition with humor and renewed indignation. Prominent groups such as The Mary Wallopers and Lankum deliver sharp punchlines and even sharper songs\, of which there are fortunately plenty in the film.

In September\, the pop master is back with a new album\, Rainy Sunday Afternoon. He will be taking that and Hannon’s entire impressive back catalogue with him on his 2026 tour\, where Lille VEGA on. March 22 will be the setting for another one of The Divine Comedy’s legendary concerts. \nWith its contrasting chamber pop\, which English music critics have associated with The Cure\, Morrissey and Blur\, The Divine Comedy has gathered an impressive fan base. \nDanish reviewers have showered Hannon’s Danish concerts with stars. The last time Neil Hannon filled Lille VEGA was in 2017. The paper Information sent Klaus Lynggaard to rewiew the concert and he described it as “superb”. In his review\, Lynggaard explains why one of Britain’s most recognized songwriters – despite worldwide popularity – is perfect in Lille VEGA’s smaller concert hall: “This is certainly due to the excessively high quality and excessive intelligence that Neil Hannon insists on displaying\, both lyrically and musically\, but it was paradoxically the audience’s luck\, because the intimacy and the whole atmosphere of celebration that characterized the event this Tuesday evening would certainly have been lost in a larger venue.
