SUMMARY:SMALL THINGS LIKE THESE - Danish release date on Oct 30th
DESCRIPTION:Experience a touching\, strong and haunting film starring Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy (‘Oppenheimer’) about compassion\, responsibility and courage\, based on the bestselling novel by Claire Keegan (‘The Quiet Girl’).\nOn the 30th of October\, Angel Films are releasing SMALL THINGS LIKE THESE in cinemas all over Denmark. A film that reminds us that the sins of the past are not far behind us. \nIreland\, 1980’s. While working as a coal merchant in order to support his family\, the devoted dad Bill Furlong discovers disturbing secrets kept hidden by the local church. The church is holding young girls\, who are pregnant out of wedlock\, confined against their will. Suddenly\, Bill’s own past submerges\, and as a father of five daughters\, he finds himself in a destructive moral dilemma. His discoveries force him to confront the silent complicity of the small town under the control of the Catholic church and to come to terms with his own past. \nThe film had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival where Emily Watson (‘Breaking the Waves’) won the Silver Bear for Best Supporting Performance. D. 30. oktober har Angel Films Danmarkspremiere på SMALL THINGS LIKE THESE i en lang række biografer landet over.

SUMMARY:Det forvandlede Irland
DESCRIPTION:Det forvandlede Irland\n\n\n\n\nVed dr.phil.\, lektor em. Michael Böss\, AU \nMidt under 1. \nhttps://www.fukbh.dk/program/samfund/det-forvandlede-irland

SUMMARY:The Scratch live in Pumpehuset
DESCRIPTION:The Scratch are a band that don’t seem to fit in anywhere\, but have proven they fit in everywhere. Starting out with just acoustic guitars and a wooden box back in 2016\, the band immediately made a splash in their hometown of Dublin\, releasing their debut EP ‘Old Songs’ in 2018. Seemingly unable to stick to one genre\, they consciously move between heavy metal\, Irish folk\, stadium rock and post-punk. They are constantly evolving both creatively and sonically\, never taking themselves too seriously as individuals\, but always putting their souls into the music. They have won the hearts of everyone who has experienced their live shows\, which have attracted a cult-like following in Ireland\, the UK and most recently mainland Europe and North America \n\n\nThe Scratch er et band\, der ikke ser ud til at passe ind nogen steder\, men som har bevist\, at de passer ind overalt.

SUMMARY:Ye Vagabonds
DESCRIPTION:The group Ye Vagabonds was founded by brothers Diarmuid and Brían Mac Gloinn\, who are known for their beautiful vocal harmonies and their ability to bring old melodies to life. Join us and experience their soulful musical expression\, which has made them leading figures in the new wave of Irish folk music. \nBrothers Diarmuid and Brían Mac Gloinn\, the duo behind Ye Vagabonds\, are part of a new generation revitalizing Irish folk. Originally from Carlow\, they moved to Dublin over ten years ago\, where they still live today. Ye Vagabonds are celebrated for their exquisite harmonies and their gift for reinterpreting traditional songs. Their influences draw from Ulster’s rich singing traditions as well as North American folk music. And if those references don’t immediately ring a bell\, they’ve summed up their sound quite simply themselves: “brothers\, old melodies\, close harmonies.” A short description for a sound that reaches deep into the soul! \nIn recent years\, Ye Vagabonds have been touring extensively as headliners and have also opened for artists such as Patti Smith\, Hozier\, Phoebe Bridgers\, boygenius\, Dermot Kennedy\, and Vampire Weekend. They have won “Best Track\,” “Best Album\,” and “Best Folk Group” at the RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards. \nThis year\, they’re releasing new material — and who knows\, we might be lucky enough to experience it live when the Irish folk brothers take the stage at ALICE! \n\n\nKøb billetter her: https://alicecph.com/event/ye-vagabonds-ie/

SUMMARY:Nyahh Records presents: E the Artist IE/NG + Natalia Beylis & Eimear Reidy IE + Méabh McKenna IE
DESCRIPTION:Join us on this unique tour of contemporary Irish folk music\, at a concert evening curated by Willie Stewart from the exciting Irish indie label Nyahh Records. The concert is presented in collaboration with Final Descent. \n“I started Nyahh Records because I kept hearing new music in Ireland that I was really excited about and wanted to work with\, and that I thought deserved to reach more people. I find the quality of what’s coming out in Ireland right now to be amazing and I want to help to highlight it\,” says Willie Stewart\, the founder of the Irish label Nyahh Records. He has now put together two different concert evenings at Alice with exactly that purpose: to showcase some of the most interesting and experimental Irish music right now. \nAll the artists you can experience across these two evenings are affiliated with Nyahh Records. But what is this … Nyahh? According to Willie Stewart\, Nyahh refers to the soul inherent in music. But also to something you can’t quite put your finger on. “I like that the Nyahh is unclassifiable\,” he said in the same interview. “That’s how I would like the releases on the label to be as well.” Nyahh Records mainly releases experimental music and folk music from Ireland. And tonight you can look forward to everything from harp playing fused with electronica\, to high-energy rap\, and instrumental music that will transport you to another dimension. On the evening you can experience: \nMéabh McKennaMéabh McKenna is a multi-instrumental sound artist based in Eastern Ireland. She plays various types of harp and also uses her voice\, electronics\, and found objects to create her enchanting sound. With many years of experimentation and collaboration behind her\, her live performances have evolved from creating eclectic worlds of traditional\, classical\, and early music to weaving them together with contemporary and electronic elements. Her performances are in dialogue with both past and present\, interlacing inner and imagined worlds. \nE The ArtistDaranijoh Sanni\, better known as E The Artist\, is an experimental rapper\, producer\, and art director from Ayrfield in North Dublin. Inspired by Afrofuturism\, E The Artist reimagines modern Black club genres in their loudest\, boldest\, and most intense expressions. Dance and rap styles\, from jungle to grime\, fuse with heavier tracks. With roots in Ireland\, E The Artist turns his gaze toward the ever-emerging neocultures growing across the diaspora. You can be sure to be blown away by E The Artist’s high-energy show! \nEimear Reidy & Natalia BeylisCellist Eimear Reidy and experimental all-round artist Natalia Beylis conjure forest landscapes\, cosmic moonrises\, and drone journeys in their mesmerizing and seductive music. Based in Leitrim\, Ireland\, the duo has developed a distinctive musical language representing common ground between their individual styles. Often\, the cellist and multi-instrumentalist improvise at their joint performances\, where the tones intertwine like the roots of ancient trees. \nIn 2021\, they released their first album together\, followed in 2023 by the successor She Came Through the Window to Stand by the Door\, recorded on Ireland’s second-oldest organ. Writing about the second album in The Quietus\, Daryl Worthington noted: “The idea of sound being world building is common in ‘electronic’ music\, whether modular or computer. Beylis and Reidy show that surroundings can be bypassed with acoustic means\, and the conjured realms can be full of motion and life. Transportive isn’t quite the right word. Their music induces hyperphantasia.” Look forward to stepping into new worlds with Eimear Reidy and Natalia Beylis! \nWillie Stewart has curated two different concert evenings. If you wish to attend both\, you’ll need to purchase two separate tickets. Koncerten præsenteres sammen med Final Descent.\n“I started Nyahh Records because I kept hearing new music in Ireland that I was really excited about and wanted to work with\, and that I thought deserved to reach more people. I find the quality of what’s coming out in Ireland right now to be amazing and I want to help to highlight it\,” har Willie Stewart\, der står bag det irske label Nyahh records\, udtalt. Nyahh? “I like that the Nyahh is unclassifiable\,” sagde han i det samme interview\, “That’s how I would like the releases on the label to be as well”. \nI 2021 udgav de deres første album sammen\, og i 2023 fulgte opfølgeren She Came Through the Window to Stand by the Door\, indspillet på Irlands næstældste orgel. Om det andet album skrev Daryl Worthington i The Quietus\, at: “The idea of sound being world building is common in ‘electronic’ music\, whether modular or computer. Beylis and Reidy show that surroundings can be bypassed with acoustic means\, and the conjured realms can be full of motion and life. Transportive isn’t quite the right word. Their music induces hyperphantasia.”

SUMMARY:Nyahh Records presents: Mohammad Syfkhan SY/IE + Ultan O’Brien IE + HEDGLING IE
Woven Skull\, Boneyard Witch og Divil A’ Bit. \n\nJoin us on this unique tour of contemporary Irish folk music\, for a concert evening curated by Willie Stewart from the exciting Irish indie label Nyahh Records. \nAll of the artists you can experience across these two evenings are affiliated with Nyahh Records. But what is this … Nyahh? According to Willie Stewart\, Nyahh refers to the soul inherent in music. But also to something that cannot quite be defined. “I like that the Nyahh is unclassifiable\,” he said in the same interview. “That’s how I would like the releases on the label to be as well.” Nyahh Records mainly releases experimental music and folk music from Ireland. And tonight you can look forward to violin virtuosity\, the sound of the bouzouki\, and atmospheric compositions filled with field recordings. \nHEDGLINGHedgling is a new duo consisting of Natalia Beylis and Willie Stewart\, the founder of Nyahh Records. They have previously played together in several bands\, including Woven Skull\, Boneyard Witch\, and Divil A’ Bit. With HEDGLING\, they build on these collaborations to create a new musical dimension. Their sound moves through the space between the familiar and the unknown parallel worlds that exist around\, above\, and beneath us. Percussion constellations made from found objects\, creaking harmonium drones\, and field recordings from the bogs and forests surrounding their home merge into an intimate portrait of the world they share. \nUltan O’BrienUltan O’Brien is a violinist and composer from the west of Ireland\, who works with both traditional Irish music as well as sound art and experimental music. With his unique approach and technique\, Ultan O’Brien brings something new to an ancient tradition\, sparking celebration and deep emotions wherever he tunes his violin. \nMohammad SyfkhanMohammad Syfkhan is a singer and bouzouki player. He began playing music in 1980 while studying to become a nurse. After graduating\, Mohammad moved to the city of Raqqa in Syria\, where he also began working as a professional singer and formed his own band\, The Al-Rabie Band. They performed at concerts\, parties\, weddings\, and festivals all over Syria and quickly became a sought-after orchestra. Their live performances included Kurdish\, Arabic\, Turkish\, and some Western songs\, as well as Mohammad’s own material. \nMohammad continued to perform with his band while also working as an operating room nurse until the war in Syria broke out in 2011. During the war\, Mohammad lost his son\, who was murdered by ISIS. After that\, the family had no choice but to leave their home and flee to Europe. Three of Mohammad’s sons settled in Germany\, while Mohammad\, his daughter\, and his wife moved to Ireland. Since then\, Mohammad has used the language of music to integrate into the local community\, performing at private parties and concerts.
