Bloomsday at the Rand.
To celebrate one of the world’s most famous books, Ulysses by James Joyce, Gravens Rand will be hosting an event on Monday 16th June – aka Bloomsday – the actual day in 1904 that the entire events of the book occur. Widely regarded as the greatest book ever written it is funny, frustrating, impenetrable, obtuse, obscure, muti-layered … and that’s just chapter one.
Resident Copenhagen writer Fergal O’Byrne (@fergalobyrne) will be reading some extracts from the book and discussing some background to the story and even tips on how to read it. There is also a fun quiz with maestro Pat Sheridan.
The event is intended to be informal and no knowledge of the book or Joyce is needed. The goal is to intrigue you enough that you may dip in and read it yourself someday. Anyone who wants to read or add their own twopence worth or wisdom about Joyce are more than welcome. A few actor types may even pop by to do a bit of improv reading.
